Truth About Corn Treatments
Dec 08, 2022
A painful corn can make you feel miserable, especially having to wear shoes that aggravates the pain.
The first response is what can I buy to help me get through the day? Corn treatments are readily available, but are they ok to use?
Corn treatments are available as plasters, pads and paints. They are readily available and fairly reasonable to buy. It reads as if I am endorsing the use of these treatments. MOST DEFINITELY NOT!!
Corn treatments have ACID in them.
If using plaster/pads they obviously don't know how big and deep the area to be treated is and can't tell the difference between healthy normal skin and the hard calloused skin of the corn. This means that if ANY of the corn plaster/pad comes in contact with the healthy surrounding skin, the acid will also work on it too. We also find that using the paint, if too much is applied and not allowed to dry, it can drip and burn healthy skin.
If this starts to happen the skin becomes white and the area can become tender. This can quickly turn into a serious wound.
If you are pre diabetic, diabetic, have any circulation issues or just know you have difficulty in healing we 100% advise against using corn treatments. The risk of them ulcerating is high due to pressures from footwear.
If you're otherwise fit and healthy we don't recommend corn treatments either, but if you are using them, make sure that the size of your corn treatment does not exceed the size of the corn.
At Foot corner, we are trained to remove corns safely, quickly and effectively to give you immediate relief with the use of no acids.
